How To Install Window Film: Privacy Meets Style

How to Install Window Film

A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

Installing window film is quick and easy. Follow these six simple steps for a smooth, bubble-free finish.

🧼 Step 1 – Clean the Window

Before you begin, thoroughly clean the glass using a glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Remove all dust, dirt, grease, and fingerprints.

Pro Tip: Even tiny dust particles can cause bubbles under the film.

💧 Step 2 – Spray the Window

Fill a spray bottle with clean water and add 2–3 drops of Sunlight dishwashing liquid.

Spray the entire window generously. The water mixture allows the film to slide into position before it adheres to the glass.

📦 Step 3 – Peel the Backing

Carefully peel off the protective backing from the window film.

Lightly spray the adhesive side of the film with the same soapy water mixture as you remove the backing to help prevent dust from sticking.

🪟 Step 4 – Apply the Film

Place the film onto the wet window with the adhesive side facing the glass.

Because the window is wet, you can easily reposition the film until it is perfectly aligned.

🪄 Step 5 – Remove Water & Air Bubbles

Using a window film applicator or squeegee, start in the centre of the window and work towards the edges.

Apply firm, even pressure to push out all trapped water and air bubbles.

✂️ Step 6 – Trim the Edges

Using a sharp utility knife, carefully trim away the excess film around the edges of the window.

Leave approximately 1–2 mm between the film and the frame for a neat, professional finish.

✅ Finished!

Wipe away any remaining water and allow the film to dry naturally.

Small water pockets or a slightly cloudy appearance are normal immediately after installation and will disappear as the film cures over the next few days.

Enjoy your newly installed window film with improved privacy, reduced glare, UV protection, and a clean modern look.
